Colin says:

“Like most photographers I take a lot of pictures. Most of the time I take shots that I like and a certain proportion of these may find their way into competitions, exhibitions etc. I was wondering how I might use and share some more images, so for a 12 month period from mid 2014, I posted one picture on line, with some commentary, every day. This talk is a critique of some of the images from that project and includes a wide range of subject matter.

I use the images to discuss various aspects of photography and photographic technique. I strongly encourage audience interaction – questions and comments.

25-Jan-18 I Photograph, Therefore I Am Nigel Hicks

“Why do any of us take photos? Simply memories of events and people? Because we like the technology? To create some form of photographic art? For me, from the beginning my photography has been driven by a need to express my feelings about the world, and in particular the natural world, and our relationship to it, as well as to attempt to encapsulate and draw out the ‘essence’ and inner beauty of the environments that surround us. Although, as a professional photographer my expression is often constrained by and adapted to the commercial imperative, this has always been the driving force behind my photography. Just as writers have no choice but to write in order to express themselves, so I have to take photos. It’s who I am. It is how I see the world. I photograph, therefore I am.”
