Please Note these rules have been updated for the 2017-2018 season
1. GENERAL RULES
1.1 These rules may be changed only at an Annual General Meeting or at a Special General Meeting. Alterations must be approved by at least two-thirds of Members at the meeting.
1.2 The rules will be printed in the Club’s Annual Handbook which is given to all members at the beginning of each season and provided to new members on joining.
1.3 The following competitions will be held during each season:-
Monthly Print and Monthly PDI Competitions. These will consist of five separate point-scoring competitions for both Prints and PDIs with four being ‘open’ subjects and one being a subject determined by the Committee and printed in advance in the handbook.
One Print and one PDI Landscape Competition.
A single Folio Five PDI Competition.
One Print and one PDI Personal Selection Competition.
One Print of the Year Competition and one PDI of the Year Competition.
1.4 Competitions are open only to fully paid-up members.
1.5 The schedule of competitions is published in the Annual Handbook.
1.6 All competitions will be judged wherever possible by an outside, independent judge.
1.7 The Hon. Treasurer will issue each member with a competition number and all competition entries must show this number.
1.8 All images must have been produced as a result of the subject being exposed to light. Computer-generated images and clip art are not eligible.
1.9 All competition entries must be given to the Hon Competition Secretary by the dates shown in the Annual Handbook.
1.10 A member may not submit more than two entries for any one competition
1.11 In all Monthly Print/PDI Competitions and Landscape Competitions, points will be awarded
for each image out of a maximum of 20. In addition, 1st, 2nd & 3rd places will be awarded.
The points for all images submitted to each competition will count and at the end of the
season the member with the highest number of aggregate points in each competition will be
awarded the appropriate Trophy.
1.12 In the Print/PDI Personal Selection Competitions, the Print/PDI of the Year Competitions
and the Folio Five Competition only 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded and the member
with the first placed image/folio in each competition will be awarded the appropriate Trophy.
1.13 At the end of the Club’s season, in the event of a tie, either in the Monthly Print or PDI Competitions, the competitor with the highest number of images awarded 20 points will be awarded the trophy. If there is still a tie, then the number of images with 19 points will decide the winner. If this does not determine the winner, then the number of images with 18 points will decide etc. If the position is still unresolved, then those concerned will enter their highest scoring image for a decision to be made by the judge at the Print and PDI of the Year Competition Night.
In the event of there being two divisions, if there is a tie when deciding relegation from Division 1, then consideration shall be given to the number of images scoring 20. 19, 18 etc or a submission shall be made at the Print and PDI of the Year Competition Night in an analogous way to that described above.
1.14 Depending on the number of entrants for the Monthly Print and PDI Competitions after the first collection of a new season, and in consultation with members, the Committee may at its discretion, without referral to the AGM, decide whether there shall be one or two divisions within either or both competitions. If the decision is to have two divisions, then the number of members in Division 1 Prints and/or PDIs will be declared at a brief EGM in the new season starting in October before the judging for the first competition night, when the number and intentions of members has become clear. Members will be allocated to the two divisions by the Committee, based on the total points achieved in the previous season. The number of members in Division 1 for the Print and PDI Competitions may be different. At the end of the season a system of promotion to and relegation from Division 1 will then apply as follows:-
Case 1: All members of Division 1 submitting at least one entry.
For each competition, print and PDI, the two with the lowest score in Division 1 shall be relegated to Division 2. The number promoted from Division 2 shall make up the number in Division 1 to that declared for the new season starting in October.
Case 2: One or more members of Division 1 not submitting any entries.
For both print and PDI competitions, only one member with the lowest score who has submitted entries shall be relegated to Division 2 along with the non-submitting members. The number promoted from Division 2 shall make up the number in Division 1 to that declared for the new season starting in October.
The methods shown in 1.13 above will determine the final position in the event of a tie.
1.15 All trophies are held for one season only.
1.16 In the event of there being two divisions, then all new members of the Club will automatically be placed in Division 2 for competition purposes.
